The Purdue Boilermakers are a perfect 8-0 to start the season and fresh off of becoming the No. 1 team in the country, they’re ready to take on all comers. Matt Painter’s crew is riding high thanks to stellar scoring from Jayden Ivey and Zach Edey, the rebounding of Trevion Williams and the locker room leadership of Sasha Stefanovic. They’ve got themselves talent and depth that other teams dream of and it has the Purdue faithful dreaming big when March rolls around.
Another guy thinking big is Rob Blackman, the voice of Purdue, who joined Kevin & Query on Wednesday to discuss Purdue’s No. 1 ranking, honoring the late Larry Clisby and who he thinks the most important player on the roster is if the Boilermakers’ dreams hope to become a reality.
“These guys are a part of history. The first-ever Purdue team to be ranked number one. It’s a pretty damn big deal. It’s a huge accomplishment but in the same vein it’s only December so there’s still a long way to go.” – Rob Blackman
When it comes to the player with the most upside, the answer is Jaden Ivey. Zach Edey is likely their most unique player but when it comes to the most important player, Blackman didn’t mince words.
“It’s Sasha Stefanovic. He’s not only a very good three-point shooter but even if you take the shooting away he keeps the whole team together. He’s the glue of the team.”
