Indianapolis – After a disappointing loss to Tampa Bay on Sunday, the Colts are looking to get back over .500 and head into the bye with some momentum with a win over the the 2-9 Texans. This will be the 2nd time the Colts and Texans have played this season with the 1st bout going to the Colts in a 31-3 victory.
Longtime Houston Chronicle Texans Reporter John McClain joined JMV on Wednesday to give two reasons that the Texans can beat the Colts on Sunday:
“I’ve got 2 guaranteed reasons the Texans can beat the Colts. 1. The entire team gets food poisoning in their hotel and can’t make it to NRG Stadium and 2. Keep Jonathan Taylor with fewer than 100 yards. The Texans need to find a back like Jonathan Taylor this offseason because they are last in the NFL in rushing. The Colts are 6-0 when he rushes for 100+ yards and 0-6 when he doesn’t.”
The Texans are 31st in the NFL currently allowing opposing RBs to run for 135.6 yards/game. However, John McClain unearthed a stat that he couldn’t believe when diving deeper into the numbers:
“As terrible as the stats say the Texans run defense has been this season, only 1 RB has gotten 100 or more yards on them. Jonathan Taylor. I looked that up and I was shocked.”
The previous matchup and the season stats both suggest that Jonathan Taylor is in line for another monster day. However, if the Texans are somehow able to keep Taylor under 100 yards like they have every other RB they have faced this season, the Colts could be in a dogfight they weren’t expecting heading into the bye.
