Tonight the Indiana Hoosiers look to bolster their NCAA Tournament resume with a win in Syracuse against the Orange. The game marks the first road game underneath Mike Woodson.
Two things immediately come to mind when you start thinking Syracuse basketball.
- Jim Boeheim
- 2-3 Zone
On Tuesday’s edition of the Dan Dakich Show, Dan gave an explanation as to how the Hoosiers can crack the infamous Jim Boeheim 2-3 zone.
“You have absolutely got to keep getting the ball to Trayce Jackson-Davis. You have to make him make the play. It’s not like the 2-3 zone of other times where they’re really athletic and long. Trayce Jackson-Davis might sometimes be on the block, in the short corner, he might flash to the short-middle, and don’t forget him. Don’t get three happy.”
Now everyone in college basketball knows the game plan for any opponent is to take away TJD. Eastern Michigan and Marshall would certainly agree with that. That means IU will need players to step up offensively in order to pick up a win in the Big Ten/ACC Challenge. Dan highlighted some players that IU will need tonight in order to do so.
“It’s about time that guy starts playing. You’re brought over here for a reason. You got to make shots, so start making shots. You have to have someone effective in the middle of the zone. I’m going to be curious tonight whether Tamar Bates, Miller Kopp, Race Thompson, and goes in the middle of the zone and is effective.”
