The Colts fell to 0-3 on the season for the first time since 2011. In a study conducted by the Harvard Sports Analysis Collective, a team that won the turnover battle by 3 won the game 90.7% of the time. The Colts were in the 9.3% Sunday as they struggled to move the ball with an immobile QB in Carson Wentz as he dealt with sprains in both ankles.
JMV started his show Monday afternoon by placing the blame for the poor start and why the lack of a quality backup QB cost them any shot at winning the game:
“This is on the General Manager and the Coach. I know you’re not going to find Joe Montana, Steve Young, or Terry Bradshaw as far as backup QB’s are concerned, but there are some instances where you don’t need a quality backup QB but there are some where you do. This is one where you do, especially when your starting QB can be reckless and Carson Wentz can be. He is going to take hits so you need to have some sort of backup. We had to hear throughout training camp about a battle between Jacob Eason and Sam Ehlinger, just last week Frank Reich said that Eason had his ‘full confidence’! Eason wasn’t even the backup! Brent Hundley was your backup QB and he hasn’t taken a live snap since 2017. The joke last year was how much of a statue Philip Rivers was, and well Wentz was fence post yesterday.”
The Colts next chance to grab their first win of the season will come against former Colts QB Jacoby Brissett and the Miami Dolphins down in Miami.
