In a surprising turn of events, Colts QB Carson Wentz was back on the practice field Friday for the first time since spraining both ankles in a loss to the Rams last Sunday. A majority of fans, and even Head Coach Frank Reich were surprised at the progress Wentz has made with his injuries as he hopes to play in the AFC South showdown vs the Titans this Sunday.
ESPN.com Colts Reporter Mike Wells joined JMV on Friday after Colts practice and Mike told JMV his reaction when he saw Wentz jogging out to the practice field:
“I was shocked when I walked up and saw Carson Wentz out there, moving pretty good. When he was walking, he was walking kind of gingerly. If I was the Colts I’m giving it another week. He’s still the best QB on the roster even at 75 or 80%, better than Jacob Eason or Brett Hundley. The risk of reinjuring the ankle and having it linger throughout the season isn’t worth it.”
JMV then asked Mike while he doesn’t think Wentz should play, does he think he will still try to go out there Sunday and play through the pain:
“I’d say no. I think they give it another week. The fact that Frank Reich isn’t ready to commit to Jacob Eason as the starter isn’t a good look. This is the guy that when Wentz had foot surgery Reich said that Eason is our guy. This is a bad look on the Colts front office and even Frank Reich because they knew what Wentz’s health situation was like and they don’t have anyone set up to be the backup QB.”
Will Carson Wentz be the starting QB for the Colts on Sunday? Only time will tell. If you missed any of “The Ride with JMV” on Friday, the full show podcast is below!
