We may be getting to a point where it’s inevitable for the Chicago Cubs.
The days of 2016 are over, and the moves are coming. Sure, it’s sad. But that’s business.
As the Voice of the Cubs Boog Sciambi said on The Dan Dakich Show Tuesday, it’s just a matter of time. But the answer to the question of who exactly may be on the move is up in the air.
Would they actually get a haul for Javy Baez? Is Kris Bryant done in Chicago? What would trading Craig Kimbrel actually accomplish?
They’re all legit questions.
But as Boog told DD, not only is Cubs President Jed Hoyer tasked with maneuvering this trade deadline, he’s also responsible for turning this team back into a winner.
“I think that they are going to be moving some players and the hope is that if you do that you get a player or two who will be on the next great Cubs team,” Sciambi said. “The question really becomes who has the most value and what can the Cubs get back.”
There is good news about all of this though.
Brennen Davis aka the MVP of the Futures Game with two home runs on Sunday is the real deal.
Take it from me, as the broadcaster of the South Bend Cubs when they won the Midwest League Title in 2019, Davis was the heart and soul of that team. He’s legit.
One player doesn’t mold your future though.
Brennen is a nice piece, but this year’s deadline will set the tone for what’s to come at Wrigley Field for years to come.
