Indiana basketball’s struggles continued over the weekend after they got blown out by Michigan in Ann Arbor 89 – 65.

The loss came a few days after the Hoosiers rebounded in a much-needed way at Assembly Hall against 20th ranked Iowa. That was at home.

It’s been a totally different story when Archie Miller’s squad hits the road this season.

Voice of the Hoosiers Don Fischer expressed his frustration with how the team has been playing on The Dan Dakich Show on Monday.

First, Dan told Fischer that Indiana’s performance on Sunday was the “worst defensive performance I’ve seen in the Big Ten this year.”

“I sat there in unbelieving state of mind because I just couldn’t believe we were allowing so many easy buckets inside,” Fischer told Dan.

“The pick and rolls are just rolling to the hoop, and guys getting passes just to be able to lay it in with no one there to do anything about it is just befuddling…It’s very frustrating to say the least.”

One of the biggest problems this year has been how the Hoosiers have performed on the road.

Their last win on the road was their first, and only, win on the road. It was one month ago when they beat Nebraska in Lincoln.

“This is a Jekyll and Hyde team that can play when they’re at home. They’ve gotten beaten at home, too. It’s not like nobody can beat them at home. When they go on the road it’s like I don’t think they can even understand how important it is to take even a higher strand of competitiveness with you because you can’t get energy from the crowd.”

There is six games left before the Big Ten tournament for Indiana to try to turn things around to salvage the season.

If they are to do so, what is it exactly that needs to be fixed, and how do they go about fixing it?

It’s something Dan asked Fischer on Monday.

“I don’t know how you solve it. I’m not a coach, and thank God I’m not…Honestly, I don’t know. I don’t know how you fix it. The coaching staff has got themselves a huge chore on their ends because it’s become obvious that this team at times either just doesn’t care enough, doesn’t want it enough, or doesn’t believe enough. I guess all those things come into play, don’t they?”

They’ll have to fix it quickly because they are back on the road again tomorrow night against Minnesota.
