Despite losing starting running back Marlon Mack to a torn achilles in Week 2 against the Jets, the Indianapolis Colts are very much in striking range in the AFC South. The Tennessee Titans just lost to Pittsburgh, and the Colts have an opportunity to possibly tie for the division lead if they win at Detroit this week.

The Colts are also 4-2 without their top wide receiver being much of a factor. T.Y. Hilton does not have a touchdown reception this year, and has posted 242 total receiving yards in six games.

Tuesday on The Dan Dakich Show, Fox 59 and CBS 4’s Mike Chappell told DD that what happens next for the Colts can be positively impacted by the 2020 emergence of Hilton.

“Until they get T.Y. going this offense can’t be what it needs to be,” Chappell said. “Marcus Johnson has been a good story but T.Y. is your guy. Right now he’s not top-50 in catches or yards and you can’t exist like that.”

Hilton has shown in the past that he can be a game wrecker. But if the Colts do have true Super Bowl aspirations, they need their number one wide receiver to play to his potential. Hilton’s last touchdown came over a full year ago, last season on October 20 versus the Houston Texans.

“We’re six weeks in and they have to get this guy going,” Chappell added. “I really don’t think he’s washed up, but at some point, the numbers are what the numbers are. It’s on these coaches to help him.”

Following last week’s bye, the Colts will square off against the Lions in the Motor City at 1 PM Sunday.
