Since Marlon Mack tore his achilles in Week 2 of the NFL season, the Indianapolis Colts rush attack has not been the same.

Jonathan Taylor ran for 57 yards and a touchdown against the Cleveland Browns, but Nyheim Hines had just eight yards. Jordan Wilkins took one carry for one yard.

Because Taylor is a rookie and wasn’t necessarily brought in to be the number one running back this year, it begs the question if the Blue and White can use some additional help. As of this week, former all-pro rusher Le’Veon Bell is a free agent following his release by the New York Jets.

To call Bell’s time in New York a disaster would be an understatement. The long-time Pittsburgh Steeler signed a four-year 52.5 million dollar contract in 2019 with the Jets. 35 million was guaranteed.

Just over a year later, Bell’s out after 17 games, three touchdowns, and about three yards a carry. But does his past success warrant the Colts taking a chance with him? On The Dan Dakich Show Wednesday afternoon, DD gave his thoughts on the matter.

“I got absolutely torched for saying a couple years ago that Le’Veon Bell was the best running back in the league,” Dan said. “Since that time he has tried to be a wide receiver. He’s been a pain in the a**. If you feel like Taylor is missing too many gaps or you feel like you can do much better in the run game, you might as well bring in a guy that’s good (like Bell).”

The 28-year-old Bell had his best season with Pittsburgh in 2014. In 16 games, the former Michigan State Spartan rushed for 1361 yards with 11 total touchdowns. His relationship with the Steelers came to a rough ending after he held out and missed the first nine games in 2018. Following that season, they let him go.

“I don’t think Bell has been a clown off the field,” Dakich added. “He’s just a dude that got in a bad spot and got himself disgruntled. I say bring him in.”

The Colts will take on the Cincinnati Bengals and Detroit Lions in the next two games before hosting Baltimore on November 8.
