INDIANAPOLIS – We are one step closer to the NFL regular season starting, with roster cuts occurring Saturday afternoon.
Here was the initial 53-man roster for the Colts, after the cut down from 90 players on Saturday.
Since then, the Colts have added three players.
The Colts first made two waiver claims on Sunday with the additions of DE-Al-Quadin Muhammad and S-Corey Moore.
Muhammad (6-4 and 250 pounds) comes over from the Saints, after playing 4 games for New Orleans in 2017. A 2016 sixth-round pick from Miami, Muhammad will be a right defensive end with the Colts. He had 10.5 tackles for loss and 7.0 sacks in 25 career games at Miami. To make room for Muhammad, the Colts cut Delaire, who had a very productive preseason after joining the team on Aug. 11.
Moore (6-2 and 200 pounds) was cut by the Texans on Saturday. The big safety had played with the Texans for 3 seasons, seeing action in 31 games (11 starts). The Colts now have 5 safeties on their roster, giving some insurance for a group that is getting Malik Hooker and Clayton Geathers back to full health. In letting go Pipkins, the Colts now have 5 cornerbacks. Pipkins was acquired by the team last week in a trade for LB-Antonio Morrison.
Another roster move the Colts made on Monday was officially placing rookie DL-Tyquan Lewis (toe) on injured reserve. Lewis could return in the second half of the season as one of the two ‘IR to return’ players. In place of Lewis, the Colts added tight end/h-back Ryan Hewitt, who comes over after 4 seasons in Cincinnati. Hewitt (6-4 and 255 pounds) has played in 60 games (37 starts) with the Bengals, with his strength being as a blocker.
So with those 3 moves since the 53-man roster was first cut down, here’s an updated look at the Colts roster:
