Mike Tirico is one of the most accomplished personalities in sports, with a resume full of large events like Monday Night Football and The Olympics. This year, Tirico will be broadcasting The Indy 500 live on NBC. He takes some time to sit down with DD from the Pagoda to discuss his first time at the track, how he prepares for this spectacle and so much more!
On the traditions of the Indy 500:
“It’s a perfect hang. It’s Memorial Day weekend, you get to hangout with family and friends, you keep a tradition going. I will say this: We are so away from keeping traditions going in society and in our country. Kids don’t live where they grow up anymore, all of that stuff. To have one that you hang onto here, it’s a little mix of everything. It just brings so many people here, it’s so cool.”
On the production side of the race for NBC:
“During the race, we will be at the Peacock Pit box, which is right at the end of Pit Lane. And I got to tell you, we have the very first pit stall there before the drivers exit Pit Lane. We were just down there, before the Indy Lights, what a spot. We are 2.5 stories above the pits, and we are looking all the way down Pit Lane. There couldn’t be a better spot to watch the whole race.”
