Kevin Bowen joins the show today to talk about some story lines he has seen at Colts’ training camp. Jeff and Big Joe ask Kevin about what young guys he feels could push for playing time in the regular season. Kevin goes into the fact that guys like Bobby Okereke and Rock Ya-Sin are guys that can make a good impression in the pre-season and hope to fight for minutes during the regular season. Kevin Bowen also states his opinion that protecting against injury in the pre-season is of the utmost importance.

“What are the things you are most looking forward to seeing? Are there players? Are there situations? What is most interesting to you tomorrow?”

“Well I think the first thing is health. Last year in the pre-season opener the Colts suffered two pretty major injuries. With Deon Cain tearing his ACL and ending what was going to be a very promising rookie season. I also think that we forget that Marlon Mack suffered the hamstring injury that kept him pretty much off the field for four of the first five games. That was a big reason why the Colts started one and five. Injuries are always the number one thing on the priority list when you watch pre-season games. Specifically with the opener I think you have to focus on the young guys. Once you get into playing your starters on week two and week three of the pre-season, this is the best opportunity before you get into that pre-season finale for young guys to make a good impression. If they do make that strong note to the coaching staff then all of the sudden in week two and three of the pre-season maybe they start to get rotated in with the starting units a little bit more. The young guys that come to mind are a lot of the defensive rookies. You know Bobby Okereke, Rock Ya-Sin, E.J. Speed, and Khari Willis. I mentioned Deon Cain earlier he will definitely be a name to watch.”
